AH: I watched the David Letterman clips. How touching – I can see why you appreciate this artist so much. It was interesting to me that Dave picked out his song “Searching For a Heart,” and said how much he liked the lyrics -- especially “Love conquers all, you can’t start it like a car, you can’t stop it with a gun”. I love that song.(see clip above), but the only MP3 version I could find at Amazon is by Andy Trinkler (“Jerrysburg” - 2007). It’s a good arrangement and very pleasing voice, though.

AH: I didn’t really care that much for “Renegade” at first, and that’s why I went looking for other songs. Now that I’ve listened to my selections several times, I tried “R” again, and like it more. (I put “Mohammed’s Radio” on my muxtape as “song of the moment.”) I got a phone call earlier from the only person in my world that “speaks music.” Asked him about WZ. He recommended “Werewolves of London,” “Roland the Headless” and “A Certain Girl,” but I haven’t had time to go find them. Really wanted to watch the David Letterman stuff, too, but have just been too buried all day.

That was a good police story. I have a climbing story. A group of young teens climbed a very high hill out in the sticks as the sun was setting. On the way down it was so dark that we had to feel our way. We came upon a barbed wire fence and one of the boys held it for us to crawl through. I was last and got caught by a barb just below my knee. It pretty much had to be torn out of my leg, but I was very brave – have the scar still.

Guess we've definitely sidetracked the thread - sorry Shouter - sort of - I mean Warren Zevon is kind of worth it right ?

Karen, am glad you're exploring WZ's music - hope you are enjoying it ?
You found a tribute one I hadn't seen ! ! - Don Henley - Searching
This YouTube uploader - moonfortyfour - has Warren's last appearance on Letterman in 4 parts - he was the only guest - good conversation and lots of his music.
This is the one I mentioned before - Renegade
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8P6D7wujeU

Your police car experience was more pleasant than mine. Reader's Digest version - summer sophomore year of college - five idiots decided to climb a small mountain in a state park in the middle of the night - unhappy resident park ranger called state police who waited for us to leave the park. Of the several problems he had with us - he mercifully decided to focus on the little matter of the car having out of state dealer plates and no registraton slip. After a bit of torture we were allowed to go with the "sentence" of having 24 hours to tell our parents every detail. It was a sobering thought ! ! Now the reason I bored you with this is that the name of the friend who had the car on loan from her relative was - drum roll - Karen ! I swear ;]

AH -- Just for you, I searched YouTube for WZ music that appealed to me and found these:

Searching for a Heart, by Warren Zevon, performed by Don Henley
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0zLFVA4aSA

Mohammed’s Radio – Warren Zevon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44Rwu5yPUrc

Splendid Isolation – Warren Zevon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxBHpYlDOfw

Disorder in the House – Warren Zevon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eW2fDRLd6jM

She’s Too Good For Me – Warren Zevon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KnpbxRRpp4

Undoubtedly would have found more with more time, but work is backed up since I was out having adventures for most of the last two days. (Favorite one: riding in the back of a police car for the first time and hugging a policeman because he was in the right place at the right time and was so very kind to me.)

Hey Julie, just post the URL, I'm curious.

Karen - - I have very eclectic tastes and do like happy, fun, and even some silly songs too - honest ! To borrow from another artist whose music I like -- a good song is a good song !
Wonder if you are familiar with Warren Zevon's music ? If not would highly recommend him - his songs usually have a serious subject but he had a great dry humor as well. I never tire of listening to him and find him fascinating as a person also - prefer his later stuff but it's interesting to compare - imho, a true genius was lost to us.
Don't want to hijack the thread any more than already have but think you'd also like "Renegade" - just do a search on YouTube.
Here's a song that's at least a little closer to topic maybe :]

Testing to see if I'm still allowed to post. It doesn't say "welcome back Karen" anymore.

AH: Love that song -- another sad one from you -- it brought tears to my eyes.

Anti drug songs...please. That goes against the spirit of rock and roll!

And this is my absolute favorite Monkees song. Can I embed? I'm gonna try:

I say Skynyrd has the best drug songs...but they are silly only in the 'kick your ass' kind of way.

Really didn't intend to keep this going - the Dr. Hook thing I stumbled over while finding a song for someone and it was such fun I couldn't resist.
But after playing your video Karen, I had to go get this one by an artist who always seems to end up in any playlist I make. Drugs and alcohol (why are they always referred to separately I wonder) were not strangers during at least part of his life but he was dying of cancer when he wrote this. Kind of seemed to fit with yours to me.
It is a small hijack of the thread and I apologize
