as Huck Finn might say. How many Dylan cover songs made you think - holy shit, that there’s a great tune in a way you didn’t expect. Not many, not many. Here’s one for you - Jason and The Scorchers doing “Absolutely Sweet Marie” as a country alt-rock tune. If you saw Jason play back in the day you’d know that the band could absolutely blow it out when necessary.

Whatever happened to Jason? He became a farmer (of sorts) unless, as Jason claims, that’s his identical twin.

WOW…. well this was cool. You said: ” If you saw Jason play back in the day you’d know that the band could absolutely blow it out when necessary.” and is that ever true plus they found it ‘necessary’ often. This Farmer Jason phase is interesting to me-all the people we become in our lives and yet it’s full circle somehow too.

…I love Dylan– he’s one of my Muses. For decades now I still love Dylan (ah if some of my other relationships had been as enduring as my love for Bob Dylan), His stuff never gets old for me — plus he cracks me up in interviews. .. So you might say one of my Muses amuses. Sometimes I think — hey show me something Dylan didn’t write? Bet you’d find out he ghost wrote it -ha.

I don’t like to watch that video - it’s too “Eighties” right? But I couldn’t find the MP3 of the song straight. As much as I love Dylan I usually think of this version first and not his.

    Fortunately!!!!!!!!!!!!

The “live” piece of the video though is an accurate depiction of the concert experience except, well, except it smells like beer.

Plus, follow the Tourettes trail to Staci Collins

bluesy gusto combined with furious technique on the harmonica. Collins makes beer-and-whiskey music that combines the best elements of blues and honky-tonk, rocking harder than Travis Tritt and singing more country than Reba McEntire

“Follow the Tourettes trail” — you KILL ME!! Yes —though — Stacie Collins is an unreal powerhouse. When I learned that Warner Hodges (from the Scorchers) came out of retirement to play with Stacie I knew seeing them live was a priority. If you have not tasted the air of one of her live performances yet — put stuff on hold and GO… GO.. GO. I’ve been on my own little Tourette race trying to find a really good example of Warner’s playing to no avail thus far.

Here’s a little Warner Hodges with Chelle Rose…towards the end.

Thanks!! That clip was worth it on a few fronts. Chelle Rose is one of those performers that can really hold my interest. She hits those raspy, raw soulful sounds that just works.

Jason Ringenberg played at Athfest in Athens, Georgia last summer. He still rocks it out with the best of them. He did his kids “Farmer Jason” schtick and then later, a regular J and the NS type performance. I have some photos of it, if you’d like to see them! Sparkly cowboy hat and all!
