Via Doctor Mooney’s 115th Dream comes The Rosewood Thieves.
Think of their first EP From The Decker House as a mix of The White Album ‘n Harvest. But on their second EP Lonesome the band has taken a slightly more adventurous route and sounds like it belongs down ‘round the bend on Nashville’s Music Row, an album that’s heavy on the heartbreak and country tinged indie twang. But what The Rosewood Thieves have done here is not sacrilegious. Maybe back in the days of Singout ‘n Broadside but not in today’s musical soundscapes. Yes, they have made two entirely different soundin’ EPs. They haven’t turned their back on anything, this is a band of musical mavericks that’s just gettin’ started. A band that is on the verge of making a great LP filled with sheer musical majesty.
I listened to the first thirty seconds of “Murder Ballad in G Minor” and I was hooked, what about you?
“Murder Ballad In G Minor”

I like it, what I can hear on my pathetic computer speakers (wish my boss would go home), and I like the second one too – very pretty. Dr. Mooney says they are a “band on the brink.” Could be.
Does this qualify as a murder ballad? It’s a dream, but . . .

We could go on and on about Murder Ballad’s - and we probably will.
Yes, Via Chicago fits the category. Knoxville Girl is often considered the classic of the genre.

I vote for Long Black Veil - Dave Matthews and Emmylou Harris.
Old School LBV - Johnny Cash & Joni Mitchell.
p.s. I’m diggin’ Rosewood Thieves.
Long Black Veil is nice — I like Dave Matthews.
Here’s my favorite, but wish I could find it with the steel pedal guitar (done on ACL); it added a plaintive quality that went so well with Neko’s voice.

Have to leave now, but wanted to say that I really do like Rosewood Thieves, especially after hearing them at full volume — the bass does matter — and I downloaded both songs off iTunes, plus “Wild Horses” by Alica Keys and Adam Levine (wish it was Grace). Thank you.
Hey there! Wanted to say thanks for the hit! Glad that you like their sounds! As for being on the brink, they def are. Wait til this time next year…
Thanks again!
Cheers,
MD
More guitars, but it fits here:
