Was wondering if you were stuck in a snowbank somewhere.
That list is starting to resemble a harem
Love Jack - thought the bit was funny - trailers found for the movie not so much
Being released the same day as Burton & Depp’s ” Sweeney Todd ” - - got to be a snide remark in that somewhere - - must be tired ……….
“….sixty-four years is 33,661,440 minutes and one minute is a long time …. “
It doesn’t take much to amuse me, but being hit over the head with every obvious joke doesn’t amuse.
“I need Cox.”
“…there’s no limit to what we can (pause here to indicate something funny is about to be said because the stupid among you might miss is) Imagine.”
“I just sit here while my guitar quietly…(pause, see above) whimpers.”
What was the name of that Liverpool group and what are their names? Why don’t you just tell me 20 or 30 times in case I can’t tell they’re supposed to be the Beatles? Especially when Jack Black can’t maintain his Liverpool “accent.”
Sucks. Next!
Now Sweeney Todd, THAT’S a movie! And Johnny Depp, THAT’S a pretend boyfriend!
See, I withheld my comments but I agree. Jack Black is funny but this scene/setup/movie just doesn’t look like it will be. I think back on Talladega Nights to the three or four funny scenes sprinkled through the 90 minute movie and I wonder why there is a writers strike.
Compare that to the scene from Extras I just posted. Now that’s some funny shite.
The difference between the type of comedy in Extras or The Office vs. Walk Hard or Talladega Nights is that one doesn’t require much brain power to write and the other does.
Sight gags and mugging for the camera doesn’t require a lot of talent. Exposing the humor in everyday life and relationships takes a bit more smarts to both produce and watch.
Blazing Saddles and Animal House were funny to me when I was 17 and in college. Now, if I watch them, I keep waiting to find what I thought was so funny back then.
On the other hand, When Harry Met Sally never gets old for me.
Am always suspicious that the scenes used to advertise the movie are the only thing I’m going to care if I see - probably why I don’t watch very many in a theatre any more.
Re: the “beatles” - don’t mind the French farce feeling of that scene - to me they were making fun of deliberately obvious attempts at humor by exaggerating it to the extreme. But it’s one of those things when a little is more than enough.
Example for me is - walking out on tightrope - the Stooges’ slapstick - one sketch is funny - a movie is not !
Or I could just be in denial that Jack would do such schlock without intending to - - -
so on to the new “shite” - - -
I found the Beatles scene as funny as the Patrick Stewart scene. (But what do I know – I like Mr. Bean.) I thought the exaggeration of “we are the Beatles” was a poke at John Lennon’s statement about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus (which was taken out of context at the time).
I tend to agree with Karen, it was an obvious poke at the Beatles themselves (I’m a Beatles fan so I can say this) at a time when they must have sniffed their own farts, they loved themselves so much.
And Jenna Fischer is HOT!! Did you see her Wired cover back in April, Yowzaa!
LOL at the imagery – Beatles, not Jenna. I wouldn’t know if she was hot, but I do love her in the Office. And, not to start anything, but I think she and Michael will end up together.
